Standing up it is 17 inches tall against under-seat heights of 8.5 to 11. It does not go under a seat standing up. Lying on its back the numbers become 17 × 13 on the floor and 12 tall, and on those figures it gets under the seat on exactly one of the nine airlines in our guide: Frontier, which publishes 18 × 14 × 11 — and even there the last inch of height has to give. On the other eight it does not fit under a seat, so it is not a way to fly with your pet there.
So: one airline in the cabin, and a hiking, walking and vet-trip backpack everywhere else. If you need a bag that flies, the under-seat carriers are here.
What it does well
- Stand-up room. At 17 inches tall there is genuine head height inside — the reason to choose this over a flatter bag.
- Full mesh door and side panels for airflow and visibility.
- Padded straps and back panel for carrying it any distance.
- Rated to 16 lb.
Sizing: measure your pet lying down, nose to the base of the tail, and add 2 inches. Then measure standing, floor to the top of the head. Your pet has to be able to stand up and turn around inside.
No carrier is “airline approved”. Airlines publish a maximum size; the gate agent decides whether the bag fits. Compare all nine before you book.

Two measurements decide everything.
Length. With your pet lying down, measure from the nose to the base of the tail — not the tip. Add 2 inches. That is the interior length you need.
Height. With your pet standing, measure from the floor to the top of the head.
Your pet must be able to stand up and turn around inside the carrier. That is the rule every airline writes, and the one gate agents actually check. If your pet falls between two interior sizes, take the bigger one — but check its exterior against your airline first. A bag your pet fits in but the airline will not take is no use to either of you.

We ship within the United States only, from warehouses in California and Nevada. Orders placed before 1pm ET on a business day are handed to the carrier the same day; after that, the next business day.
Delivery is typically 1–5 business days depending on how far you are from the warehouse. Shipping is free on every order, with no minimum — you never pay for delivery. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are included at the same price; allow a few extra days for those three.
You get a tracking number by email as soon as the label is created.

Thirty days from delivery, in the original packaging and unused. Email us and we will send you a return authorisation and the address for that warehouse before you post anything — a parcel sent back without one cannot be credited.
Wrong size is the most common reason people write to us, and it is the easiest to solve: tell us your pet's measurements and your airline and we will tell you which size to swap to.

Sturdy and I like how it collapse when not using. Decided to go with another carrier because I wanted a bag that had mesh lining so my dog can see through when he was laying down in the bag
Love this! We have a bigger cat and they fit well with enough room to curl up if needed and it looked like sitting up was comfortable for them as well. The mesh was good quality and withstood kitty claws. The pockets were a nice plus and were able to hold their leash, some treats and their water.
We were RV traveling, and sometimes my kitty decided a particular campground was too scary to go for a walk. So, I ordered this backpack for those occasions (and it arrived extremely fast - thank you!). It is very well made; however, it is incredibly uncomfortable. The bottom is so rigid, it digs into my lumbar region. I had a neoprene shoulder wrap for ice packs with me, so I inserted a hand towel and wrapped it around my hips before clipping on the hip belt. That made a huge difference in comfort.If you have a smaller, light-weight pet, this backpack probably will work extremely well for you. My kitty is very long and 13.5 pounds (not overweight - just a large kitty). He was only able to sit-stand in this backpack (I believe this size is the largest available for these types of backups). So, our walks were only about 15 minutes long. By then, I was ready to get the weight off me - even with the hip belt and shoulder straps, him shifting around was quite evident and a bit bothersome for my balance. If I took him out on my own, he would start to talk to me after about 5-10 minutes (normally, he is a very quiet kitty). If my husband was along walking behind me or just to the side where kitty could see him, kitty stayed calmer for much longer.He hates getting into it, but he does enjoy the outing, and when I unzip the top to lift him out, he has calmed down immensely. This is a cat who is terrified of other people and cars, and he felt safe and partially hidden while in the backpack, even with a lot of activity around him.Pros:Very well made and sturdy.Screening seems to be sturdy - kitty is very good a pushing and stretching out these types of screens, and it all remained intact.I debated getting a unit with a bubble, but this one intrigued me with all of the screening where kitty could be in any position and see out. The fact that the screening is so high, as well as on the sides, was a huge plus for making my kitty feel less claustrophobic.Many of these pet backpacks do not have a hip belt. While the hip belt included could be better padded, the fact that it exists is a plus.The shoulder straps are very well paddedCons:Bottom is very rigid and uncomfortable. You will need extra padding around your lumbar region. Still, the rigidity seems to prevent the pet's weight from sinking through the bottomThe top flap is also a bit rigid, and if you wish to leave it open for your pet to be able to pop up, the flap will be in the way. I will never have my cat popping up part of the way, so this was not an issue. And, the rigidity prevented him from pushing his head through to escape, so that is a plus. Still, keep that in mind if your intent is to have your pet’s cute little paws straddling the top with its head out.The bottom line is, we were very happy to have this backpack while traveling; it is extremely well-made, and the price was very good for this type of unit. If the manufacturer of this backpack is able to provide better padding for the hip belt so that the bottom does not dig into the lumbar region, it would be worth the extra price to purchase. I imagine any of these types of backpacks would have the same issue of a pet shifting around and pulling the wearer a bit off balance.
We are moving across the country from Kentucky to the west coast of Southern Oregon and purchased the crate for the drive. Never in a million years did I imagine my cat thriving on this 37 hour drive and he is doing it! He has preferred the crate most of the drive, though crawls into my lap for occasional snuggles with the door left open. We have walked with him through a couple parks for fresh air and he appears to feel really safe inside almost like he’s hiding from those outside due to the low visibility. I don’t know if he would feel the same in the clear bags, we may try them eventually. Previously, this fur baby was shaking and panting on a trip across town to the vet. I love this carrier. I have a large cat (~20 lbs) and have struggled finding a carrier that he's comfortable with in the car. I just moved to Houston from Michigan, so we had a 20 hour car ride ahead of us and I was desperate for a new carrier. I ordered this one and voila! I love that you can wear it as a backpack so it gives you mobility to just take him in with you when you need. It has a front panel that unzips, I just attach his kitty harness to the clip in the carrier and he's happy to sit for hours. He can even get out of the carrier if he feels like it, but he can't get very far :) If I strap the seatbelt in it's a perfect fit and the carrier won't slide or move. All in all, great purchase.
