5 of the 9 airlines we track will take it under the seat on their published figures: American Airlines, Delta, United, Frontier, Allegiant.Footprint as published, height with at most one inch of squash. Check yours against the source.
Before you book
Airlines publish their own maximum size for the space under the seat, and no two are the same. No airline approves carriers — they publish a limit, and the gate agent checks whether the bag fits. Compare all three measurements above against your airline before you buy.
Check my airlineThe question that keeps you up the night before a flight is not whether your cat will be comfortable. It is whether the gate agent will make you check the bag. So here are the numbers first.
The measurements
- 17 × 9 × 11.5 in. The long, narrow one — which is what gets it under a seat that a wider bag will not.
- Pets up to 15 lb.
It clears five of the nine airlines in our guide: American, Delta, United, Frontier and Allegiant. It does not clear Alaska and Hawaiian, JetBlue or Southwest: all three publish a ceiling lower than this bag’s 11.5 inches, and height is the measurement that does not give enough. Breeze is a different problem — it publishes 8 inches of width and this bag is 9.
What it does well
- Side entry, so a reluctant cat goes in sideways instead of being lowered in from above.
- Removable pad, machine washable — because at some point it will need to be.
- Pockets for treats, papers and a spare lead.
- A safety loop threads onto a car seat belt so the carrier does not slide off the seat on the drive to the airport.
- Soft sides give a little at the seat, which is the whole point of a soft-sided carrier.
- Folds flat for storage between trips.
- Five colors: smoke grey, turquoise blue, black, pink, purple.
Sizing: measure your pet lying down, nose to the base of the tail, and add 2 inches. Then measure standing, floor to the top of the head. Your pet must be able to stand up and turn around inside — that is the rule every airline writes, and the one gate agents actually check.
Before you book: airlines publish their own maximum under-seat dimensions and they are not the same. Compare the measurements above against your airline’s published limit before you buy — our airline size guide has all nine side by side.
How to measure your pet
How to measure your pet
Two measurements decide everything.
Length. With your pet lying down, measure from the nose to the base of the tail — not the tip. Add 2 inches. That is the interior length you need.
Height. With your pet standing, measure from the floor to the top of the head.
Your pet must be able to stand up and turn around inside the carrier. That is the rule every airline writes, and the one gate agents actually check. If your pet falls between two interior sizes, take the bigger one — but check its exterior against your airline first. A bag your pet fits in but the airline will not take is no use to either of you.

This is perfect for my 4 1/2 pom. She goes everywhere with me and people don't even know she is with me. Looks like a regular over the shoulder gym bag with mesh ventilation. When I ask Lily, "Do you want to go to the store?" or "Do you want to go on a field trip?", she runs over and gets in it and sits down waiting for me to zip it up. It is easy to hook over the front seat headrest in the car to secure it, so it doesn't sit directly on the seat and activate airbag. I had a pink one exactly like this one, but decided to get a black one so it would blend in with my outfits and not stand out. She enjoys going on field trips with me. She loves to see the world in it.
I’m really happy with this JESPET soft-sided pet carrier because it gives my pet a comfortable and secure space while still being lightweight and easy for me to carry. The size works well for a small pet, and there is enough room for them to settle in comfortably without the carrier feeling unnecessarily bulky. The soft-sided design is especially convenient for travel because it has some flexibility while still holding its shape well. I really like the mesh panels because they provide good airflow and also allow me to check on my pet without constantly opening the carrier. The zippers feel secure, the stitching seems durable, and the handles and straps make it comfortable to carry through an airport or on everyday trips. The inside is also easy to access, which makes getting my pet in and out much less frustrating. It’s lightweight when empty and doesn’t add a lot of extra weight when carrying my pet. I also appreciate that it’s designed with airline travel in mind, although I would still recommend checking your specific airline’s current carrier-size requirements before flying. Overall, I’m very satisfied with the size, ventilation, comfort, portability, and quality, and I would definitely recommend it for traveling, vet appointments, or any time you need a secure carrier for a small dog or cat.
I love the small size and light weight of this carrier. I can sling it over my shoulder and carry my 9.5 lb little cat around like a purse under my arm. However my carrier arrived with a bend in the top so her little 9.5 lb cat's head presses against the top when she stands up in it. I'm going to see if I can restore the Conestoga wagon look. Take it from me: load the cat in the carrier butt first!
This works perfect for my 4 lb Chihuahua. The only reason it doesn’t get 5 star it that the end zippered areas tend to bow in a little. So maybe some stronger ribbing would prevent that. I do end up stuffing it with one of their unused blankets to make sure it holds its shape. But overall my pup doesn’t seem to mind.
Love it!! Only took off one star because it doesn’t open from the top. But other than that it’s really durable and chic.
The measurements come first
Sized before it is listed
Every carrier lists a length, width and height. Every backpack lists the back length and the weight limit it is built for. The numbers are on the page before you buy, not in the box after it arrives.
Shipped from inside the U.S.
California and Nevada. No customs form, no six-week wait. Most orders leave in a single parcel; where a kit is drawn from two different warehouses we say so on the product page.
Ask before you buy
Send us your pet’s measurements and your airline. We will tell you which size to order, or tell you honestly that we do not have one that fits.
