Hands-Free Kit — Backpack Carrier, Harness & Waist Lead
Couldn't load pickup availability
There are trips where you need both hands. A trail, a transit platform, the twenty-minute walk between terminals with a suitcase in one hand. A shoulder bag is fine for an hour on a plane; it is miserable for that. This kit is the same idea as the Cabin-Ready Kit, built for the trips where the carrier goes on your back.
What arrives
- The backpack carrier — 12.5 × 10.5 × 16.5 inches, rated to 25 lb. Mesh on three sides, padded shoulder straps, a chest clip so the weight sits on your back and not your shoulders. Choose grey or navy blue.
- The harness — padded and reflective, adjustable at the neck and chest, with a control handle across the back. Four sizes, fitting necks from 13 to 37.5 inches. Choose black, blue, green, orange or red.
- The waist lead — 48 inches stretching to 60, with a bungee section that absorbs a sudden pull and two handles: one at the collar for close control, one further up. The waist belt is adjustable. It ships in black — tell us if you would rather have blue, grey or red.
- One box, one warehouse, one tracking number.
Why the harness is not an accessory
Every time the carrier opens, your pet is loose. At a trailhead, at a rest stop, on a platform. The harness and lead are what stand between an open zip and a bolt. That is the whole reason these three things ship together rather than separately.
One thing to be clear about
Standing up, the backpack is 16.5 inches tall against under-seat limits of 8.5 to 11, so standing up it goes under nothing. Lying on its back — the only way a backpack goes under a seat — it measures 16.5 × 12.5 on the floor and 10.5 tall, and on those figures it gets under the seat on exactly one of the nine airlines in our guide: Frontier. One airline, and we would rather tell you here than have you find out at a gate. If flying is the main reason you are buying, the Cabin-Ready Kit is the one built for that. This one is for everything else.
The price
Bought separately the three come to $99.93. Together they are $89.99 — you keep $9.94. No carrier is “airline approved” — airlines publish a maximum size and a gate agent checks whether your bag fits. Every measurement on this page comes from the manufacturer's own specification.
How to measure your pet
How to measure your pet
Two measurements decide everything.
Length. With your pet lying down, measure from the nose to the base of the tail — not the tip. Add 2 inches. That is the interior length you need.
Height. With your pet standing, measure from the floor to the top of the head.
Your pet must be able to stand up and turn around inside the carrier. That is the rule every airline writes, and the one gate agents actually check. If your pet falls between two interior sizes, take the bigger one — but check its exterior against your airline first. A bag your pet fits in but the airline will not take is no use to either of you.
Shipping & delivery
Shipping & delivery
We ship within the United States only, from warehouses in California and Nevada. Orders placed before 1pm ET on a business day are handed to the carrier the same day; after that, the next business day.
Delivery is typically 1–5 business days depending on how far you are from the warehouse. Shipping is free on every order, with no minimum — you never pay for delivery. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are included at the same price; allow a few extra days for those three.
You get a tracking number by email as soon as the label is created.
Returns & exchanges
Returns & exchanges
Thirty days from delivery, in the original packaging and unused. Email us and we will send you a return authorisation and the address for that warehouse before you post anything — a parcel sent back without one cannot be credited.
Wrong size is the most common reason people write to us, and it is the easiest to solve: tell us your pet's measurements and your airline and we will tell you which size to swap to.

The measurements come first
Sized before it is listed
Every carrier lists a length, width and height. Every backpack lists the back length and the weight limit it is built for. The numbers are on the page before you buy, not in the box after it arrives.
Shipped from inside the U.S.
California and Nevada. No customs form, no six-week wait. Most orders leave in a single parcel; where a kit is drawn from two different warehouses we say so on the product page.
Ask before you buy
Send us your pet’s measurements and your airline. We will tell you which size to order, or tell you honestly that we do not have one that fits.
